UPDATE: Dog found dead in Edgerton, police looking for owner

UPDATE (WKOW) --  Edgerton Police authorities are still continuing to investigate what led to the dog's death at a local dog park.

"It's sickening actually, it's unbelievable," said Edgerton resident Bill Bullion, who frequents the dog park. "I think it's awful, I couldn't imagine someone leaving their dog to die."

Edgerton Police Chief Tom Klubertanz says the dog's death is suspicious.

"It's not normal to find a dog or any dog dead with a leash on," said Chief Klubertanz, who says the dog also suffered multiple injuries. "Initial examination from veterinarian clinic raised suspicions with the injuries found, found some injuries that weren't quite making sense."

Chief Klubertanz isn't saying whether or not the owner had left the dog with malicious intent, instead, are "trying to find who the owner is and then we'll work from there."

Still the news is heartbreaking for dog owners like Bill Bullion.

"It's your best friend, how could you just leave it there dead or leave it to die," said Bullion. "I sure hope whoever owns the dog would come forward and at least claim their dog."

According to authorities, an autopsy from the veterinarian will not be released for another week.
