UPDATE: Taste of Madison takes over Capitol Square

UPDATE (WKOW) -- The Capitol Square is shut down to traffic this weekend to welcome a quarter of a million people for the Taste of Madison.

The annual event got started Saturday afternoon with live music and more than 80 restaurants and food carts that set up shop around the square, offering their finest selections to the crowds.

"[It's] just a really great way to say goodbye to summer in Madison," says Madison Festivals, Inc. marketing director Brodie Birkel. "It's a wonderful way for the Madison area to get together and just kind of celebrate everything that is Madison."

Taste of Madison raises more than $60-thousand every year for local non-profit organizations.

MADISON (WKOW) -- 250,000 people are expected to embark on the Capitol Square this weekend for Taste of Madison.

The event features more than 80 restaurants and three stages with free live music.

Organizers say there will also be a jumbotron on West Washington playing the Wisconsin-LSU game. 

There's a Taste of Madison app you can download on your smartphone to search for your favorite food carts and menus this year.

The event runs Saturday from 2 to 8:30 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

It raises more than $60,000 every year for local non profits.
