Erickson makes Bengals 53-man roster, Stave signs with Vikings practice squad

Posted: Updated:

MADISON, Wis. (WKOW) -- Former Badgers Joel Stave and Alex Erickson survive their first NFL preseasons and lock in a spot with their respective teams.

Stave was picked up by the Minnesota Vikings after going undrafted in the 2016 NFL draft. In four preseason games, Stave completed 28-of-51 passes for 285 yards, one interception, and no touchdowns. Stave was also sacked five times.

Minnesota has been in low spirits since losing starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to injury last week in practice. They worked out a trade with the Eagles to land quarterback Sam Bradford. On Saturday, Stave was informed he was cut by the Vikings but cleared waivers and was signed to the practice squad on Sunday.

Wide receiver Erickson was a no-brainer for Cincinnati, avoiding the cuts altogether. The undrafted free agent had a fantastic camp and preseason, making seven catches for 77 yards and two touchdowns. He also returned a punt for an 80 yard touchdown.
