Badgers Orr Out for the Season with ACL Tear

Posted: Updated:

The Badgers picked up a huge season opening win on Saturday against LSU but will continue the rest of the year without inside linebacker Chris Orr on the field. The Badgers announced on Monday that Orr will be out the remainder of the season with a torn ACL in his right knee.

Orr went down after the first play of the season the defense had against LSU.

"During the game I was told that he was feeling pretty good and for a while I thought he might even be able to go back into the game." Said head coach Paul Chryst while addressing the media on Monday.

Orr never returned to the game, but watched from the sidelines relying on crutches for mobility.

"Chris is an interesting young man." Said Chryst. "He crutched in and said I just wanted to make sure you saw me smiling today, and I'll be back. I believed him."

Orr should be able to receive a medical hardship waiver and not lose a year of eligibility because he was injured on the first play of the game defensively.

In the mean time Ryan Connelly and Jack Cichy will start at inside linebacker until T.J. Edwards, also out with injury returns.

Wisconsin will host Akron on Saturday at 2:30pm at Camp Randall Stadium.
