Lane Taylor Will Start at Left Guard for Packers

GREEN BAY (WKOW) -

One of the more surprising roster moves the Packers made at the cut deadline on Saturday was releasing three time Pro Bowl guard Josh Sitton. Sitton signed with NFC North rival Chicago the following night.

On Monday head coach Mike McCarthy said Lane Taylor will start at left guard on Sunday in Jacksonville.

"I have all the confidence in the world in Lane [Taylor]. He's earned this opportunity." Said McCarthy. "I think he's done a very good job particularly in the run blocking phase of his game."

Taylor has only two career starts in three years. The Packers give up a veteran like Sitton who only missed two starts in 112 games.

"The pass protection and some of the things particularly the way we do and what we do is just something he needs some game experience at." McCarthy said.

The Packers will open their regular season on Sunday in Jacksonville at 12:00pm.
