MADISON (WKOW) -- The famed Bucky Wagon rolled into Wake Up Wisconsin's Badger Bash show with a long history but a shiny, fairly new exterior.
The vehicle was refurbished in recent years. The vintage 1932 Le France fire engine carried UW cheerleaders and Bucky Badger onto the field for home football games for years.
Wisconsin professor Glenn Bower worked with engineers at Pierce Manufacturing to refurbish the wagon and ended up improving on the original design. They redesigned the bed of the truck with better seating and storage. Diamond plating and reinforced rails will keep the running boards firm and will be able to support more Spirit Squad members.
The Bucky Wagon is now a greener vehicle. LED emergency lights now top the wagon and will cut back on electricity use.
