Haggerty, Williams land Big Ten volleyball weekly honors

MADISON, Wis. (WKOW) -- Freshman Molly Haggerty and sophomore Tionna Williams each received honors from the Big Ten Conference this week. Haggerty was named Player and Freshman of the Week while Williams was named Defensive Player of the Week. 

Haggerty guided the No. 6 Badgers to victories over No. 2 Texas and No. 16 Texas A&M this week, averaging 5.9 kills per set and posting a .387 hitting percentage. 

The outside hitter knocked down 27 kills vs. the Aggies, then followed up with a 20-kill performance against the Longhorns. 

This is her first career Big Ten Player of the Week honor but her second career Big Ten Freshman of the Week plaudit. 

Williams averaged 1.8 blocks per set on the week, tallying a season-high eight blocks vs. the Longhorns.

This is her fourth Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week award. 

No. 6 Wisconsin opens up their conference schedule with No. 19 Ohio State, Friday at 7 p.m. at the UW Field House.
