MADISON (WKOW) -

Wisconsin star freshman Molly Haggerty has added another accolade. Haggerty has been named the AVCA National Player of the Week. She is first Badger freshman to earn the national award.

Haggerty averaged 5.88 kills per set over the weekend. The outside hitter set a school record with 27 kills in three sets in a victory over No. 16 Texas A&M. She followed that up with 20 kills in a win at No. 2 Texas. She added 14 digs in that contest.

Haggerty has also been named the Big Ten Conference Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week for her efforts. The No. 3 Badgers open up the Big Ten season at home on Friday against No. 17 Ohio State at 7 p.m. at the UW Field House. They also host Maryland on Saturday at 7 p.m.
