"Mad for the Cure" to raise money for breast cancer patients in southern Wisconsin

MADISON (WKOW) -- Many organizations are gearing up for Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October and the Susan G. Komen Foundation is one of them.

The organization is hosting "Made for the Cure" Friday, October 7 at Smart Motors (5901 Odana Road) from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. The fundraiser will support the local chapter's work in breast health and breast cancer education, real-time funding of living expenses, and treatment assistance in an eight county service area: Dane, Rock, Sauk, Green, Iowa, Columbia, Jefferson and Dodge. The money raised with help primarily low resource, uninsured and underinsured individuals.

The event features music by VO5, food and a silent auction. Dr. Gloria Ladson-Billings will be honored at the event. She's a 25 year breast cancer survivor. She and Komen Executive Director Michelle Heitzinger talked about the event on Wake Up Wisconsin Monday.
