MADISON (WKOW) -

As Winter creeps closer, hockey season is right around the corner. The Wisconsin men's team opens their season on Friday with an exhibition game with the University of Victoria.

The Badgers will play under first year head coach Tony Granato, who has experience. Granato spent the past 13 NHL seasons as either a head coach or assistant coach. Before that he played in the NHL for 13 seasons.

"We have a hungry team that is energized. They have been waiting a long time for this game." Said Granato. "The practices have been exciting, They are chomping at the bit to play somebody else."

The last two seasons, Wisconsin totaled 12 wins combined.

"I think there is a change of the culture here. There is a new buzz going around with our team and in the locker room with Wisconsin hockey." Said sophomore team captain Luke Kunin.

The Badgers host Victoria on Friday in exhibition play at the Kohl Center at 7pm. The regular season opening game is October 7 against Northern Michigan University in Green Bay at 7pm.
