Badgers lose Gaglianone for rest of the season

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -

The Badgers will be without their starting kicker for the rest of the season. Rafael Gaglianone underwent back surgery on Thursday and has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

"You're disappointed for Rafael because of all the work he's put in and how well he was playing," head coach Paul Chryst said in a statement. "From a football perspective, I've appreciated the way the other guys in that unit have responded this week."

Gaglianone sat out Wisconsin's win over Michigan State on Saturday. The Badgers have indicated his condition worsened early this week. The junior had converted 7 of 8 kicks this season. He participated in three games this season. So, the Badgers will apply for a medical hardship waiver from the NCAA to get Gaglianone another year of eligibility.
