Badgers Confirm Biegel Out Several Weeks

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -

A day after ESPN reported that Wisconsin senior linebacker Vince Biegel will miss several weeks healing from foot surgery on his right foot., The Badgers confirmed the report on Friday as Wisconsin plays No. 4 Michigan on Saturday.

“I really hate any time a player has to miss time due to an injury, especially a senior like Vince,” Badger's head coach Paul Chryst said. “Vince has such a passion for football and loves playing the game. This team is very important to him and he is very important to our team. What you appreciate is that you know he will do everything in his power to get back on the field as soon as possible.”

Biegel met with UW team physicians on Wednesday and Thursday to discuss approaches for handling the injury. Late Thursday, the determination was made that surgery was the best option.

Biegel, one of two season-long captains for the Badgers, has started 32 games for UW, including the last 29 in a row. He was a third-team All-Big Ten selection last year.

No. 8 Wisconsin will play No. 4 Michigan on Saturday at 2:30 in Ann Arbor, Michigan and can be seen on WKOW.
