Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -

UW head men's basketball coach Greg Gard is coming off a season where he lead the Badgers to a Sweet 16 berth, but now he enters his first preseason as a head coach and will kick off the season hosting UW-Plateville in exhibition play against his brother Jeff who coaches the Pioneers. The game will also honor their father.

It's being called the Brain Cancer Awareness game and will be played on October 30 at the Kohl Center. One year to the day after Greg and Jeff lost their father to the disease.

"As I looked at it and how the calendar laid out, October 30th came to mind which was the day our dad passed away. We came up with this idea of the Brain Cancer Awareness game." Said Greg in a press conference on campus, Monday.

"He is going to be there. We know it." Said Jeff about his father. "He was with Greg last year on their run that they had. It's going to be a special day. It will be a day of tears but also a day of joy."

Tip off for the exhibition game is at 5pm from the Kohl Center on October 30. The Badgers regular season opening game is on November 11 at 7pm against Central Arkansas at the Kohl Center.
