Badgers upset No. 6/9 Boston College, give Granato first home victory

MADISON, Wis. – A pair of power-play goals and the goaltender of sophomore Matt Jurusik combined to help Wisconsin men’s hockey (2-1-0) to a 3-1 victory over No. 6/9 Boston College on Friday at the Kohl Center.

Senior forward Grant Besse scored 4:27 into the game to give UW a 1-0 lead with his first tally of the season, a power-play goal.

Junior forward Ryan Wagner scored late in the second period, at 19:47 on a 5-on-3 power play, to put UW up 2-0.

Sophomore Seamus Malone scoring his second of the season at 9:18 of the third period, before BC’s JD Dudek scored 12 seconds later to close it to 3-1.

Jurusik stopped 29 shots for the victory. UW outshot BC 34-30 for the game.

UW was 2-for-8 on the power play. UW killed all six power plays.

The victory marked the first Kohl Center win for head coach Tony Granato and associate head coaches Mark Osiecki and Don Granato.
