Happ extending his range for the Badgers

Posted: Updated:

Ethan Happ burst on to the Big Ten scene as a redshirt freshman for the Badgers. He averaged 12.4 points and 7.9 rebounds a game. However, Happ knew there was much more he could do to grow his game. In particular, he knew he needed to extend his range.

The sophomore has been busy putting up shots since the end of last season. He says he set a goal of making 500 shots a day. The 6'9" forward has noticed a difference, even if it is a work in progress.

"I wouldn't say I'm a defined three-point shooter. If you leave me open, I'm going to shoot it. I think the more I get reps in in live action, the more they are going to go in."

Happ didn't even attempt a three-pointer a year ago. Vitto Brown was in a similar position. He didn't attempt a three until his junior season. Brown then shot 40 percent from beyond-the-arc last season. He didn't promise his friend will make that kind of a leap but did say Happ's shot is looking better.

"It ain't that pretty. No, I'm just kidding. It's definitely a lot better. It's 50 percent better right now. He's still got a little ways to go, but last year he wasn't shooting the shot in practice. So, he's been shooting more this year. It's definitely good to see."
