River Valley football making first appearance in state title game

SPRING GREEN (WKOW) -

The River Valley football players joked at the beginning of fall camp that they planned to finish the year at Camp Randall Stadium. Little did head coach Tim Eastlick realize at the time that his players weren't really joking.

"It's a dream that every team has," says Eastlick. "I don't know that it's a dream the coaching staff saw coming, but we've watched our kids get better every week. Their personalities have shown through. Their determination is there and they've worked their tails off to get to this point."

River Valley battled to claim a tie of the Southwest Wisconsin Conference lead. Then, they got hot in the postseason. The Blackhawks are averaging 40.3 points in the playoffs.

"Everyone just believes in each other," says quarterback Elijah Alt. "We go out there and have fun. We just play every game like it could be our last, every play just go hard."

River Valley is hoping that attitude will pay off with one more victory at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Camp Randall Stadium in the Division 4 title game against St. Croix Central.
