'Science Expeditions' gives public a look inside UW-Madison's scientific work

MADISON (WKOW) -- Families got a chance to see how UW-Madison students are learning, at a weekend-long event.

Science Expeditions at the Health Science Learning Center gave people a look inside the School of Nursing, which set up stations for kids to learn about things like the importance of getting outside to exercise and why you should wear a helmet on a bike.

"Here at our station, we're really looking at the impact of loss of muscle mass and how much harder it is for you to do things when you don't have those muscles so the message here today is get out, be active be healthy and be strong," says Barbara King, with the nursing school.

Organizers say many of the other stations had helpful simulations where both kids and adults could learn something new.

The School of Pharmacy was involved in Science Expeditions for the first time this year, too, among many other departments. People could see demonstrations, hands-on activities, tours and shows to learn more about weather prediction, greenhouses, and veterinary medicine.
