Tom Lange Has Been Behind the Mic at Whitewater for Over Four Decades

WHITEWATER (WKOW) -

With the many sounds of a baseball game, for the Whitewater Warhawks there is one sound in particular they haven't gone without for over forty years.

Tom Lange moved to Whitewater in the fall of 1970 to pursue a matser's degree in finance and that is when being the man behind the mic for UW Whitewater athletics took off. It started with freshman football games and wrestling meets, and lead to baseball.

"In about 1976 when they built the first addition of Prucha Field, I was a baseball announcer and I guess I've been doing it ever since." Lange said.

Over the years Lange has witnessed good baseball and with one of the best seats in the house when it comes to a home game it's rare for him to not be there.

"I think I've missed one. I'm not exactly sure." Said Lange. "I know I was sick once and I had to call in sick and I missed that afternoon."

Lange never married or had kids of his own but made the Warhawks his growing family that adds a generations each season.

"You know if you asked him he would go home and get a little notebook and bring it in of the days I played." Said Warhawk's head baseball coach John Vodenlich. "I mean he still has his notebooks. Tommy has been a huge supporter of us."

Every sports team has it's super fan and Tom might be that for the Warhawks.

"If you walk into a basketball game, you walk into wrestling, you walk into anywhere and Tommy is there." Said Warhawk's junior pitcher Austin Jones.

The Warhawks will honor Lange on April 29 at Miller Stadium with his own bobble head.
