VERONA (WKOW) -- Verona Area Community Theater is gearing up for their eighth all teen production this April with the classic musical West Side Story.
On Thursday, Alyssa Dvorak, Reese Clostermery and Mattie Kantor stopped by Wake Up Wisconsin to talk about the upcoming production.
Performances run April 27th-29th at the Verona Area High School Performing Arts Center with performances at 7:30pm on Thursday the 27th, Friday the 28th, and Saturday the 29th and 2:00pm on Saturday the 29th. The Verona Area High School Performing Arts Center is located at 300 Richard St.
West Side Story is based on Shakespeare’s tragedy Romeo and Juliet and tells the story of two young lovers caught between their warring street gangs. Tony, a former member of the “American” Jets, falls in love with Maria whose brother is the head of the Puerto Rican Sharks. Their struggle to find love in a world of violence and racism is an emotional tale that still holds thematic relevance today.
VACT’s production features a cast of 93 teenagers between the ages of 13-18 across 23 schools. The production is directed and co-choreographed by Alyssa Dvorak who made her directorial debut with last year’s all teen VACT production of Bring It On the Musical.
Tickets are $16.50 for general admission, and $11.50 for seniors 65 years and older and children/students through high school. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door, depending on availability.
