Expect traffic delays on Beltline starting Friday as Midwest Horse Fair returns

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) -- There may be traffic delays Friday and this weekend as the Midwest Horse Fair trots into Madison.

The annual event begins Friday morning at the Alliant Energy Center. The hundreds of spectators and exhibitors usually arrive during the height of the morning commute, and most of them will be on the Beltline (Highway 12/18). The Dane County Sheriff's Office says it expects both east and westbound lanes to be congested.

For people going to the event, you can reach the Alliant Energy Center grounds through four gates: the Olin Avenue gate, the Rusk Avenue gate, the John Nolan gate, and the main gate on Rimrock Road. One outbound lane of John Nolen and one outbound lane of Rimrock Road (south) will be closed to allow for Horse Fair participants to get into the grounds.

Police will be directing traffic in the area and signs will be up along the Beltline to help direct motorists.

The sheriff's office is asking any motorists not going to the Horse Fair to avoid Highway 12/18 near Park Street, Rimrock Road and John Nolen Drive Friday morning.
