MADISON (WKOW) -

New Orleans one day and Madison the next was the lifestyle of travel over a 24 hour stretch for Edgerton native Steve Stricker as a spoke to a packed house at the Cherokee Country Club for First Tee of South Central Wisconsin on Monday.

Stricker was scheduled to put on a golf clinic at the event. Recent heavy rain postponed the clinic, but Stricker spoke with fans inside the clubhouse.

Stricker will be doing some promoting at the pro level as well. He will again help host the American Family Insurance Championship at University Ridge in late June and hopes to be in the field of the U.S. Open at Erin Hills the week before that.

Stricker still hasn't qualified for the open. He was recently denied a special exemption.

"I still think I can compete at that level. I almost feel like the harder the better sometimes." Said Stricker. "It's a big course. It's going to take a special player to win there. Probably a guy who hits it a long ways, but I'm going to give it a try."
