Men's Tennis: Badgers Head to National Tournament

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -

After ending the regular season with a (17-7) overall record the Wisconsin men's tennis team has qualified for the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2010. The No. 31 Badgers will take on San Diego in the opening round on the campus of Southern California this Friday.

"There are definitely going to be some nerves but we are excited to go to L.A. and play in our first national tournament in what seven years?" Said Badger junior Lamar Remy.

Wisconsin is making its first appearance in the NCAA tournament since reaching the Sweet 16 in 2010.

"It's a good time of year. The guys are excited to be on the practice court." Said head coach Danny Westerman in his second season at Wisconsin. "There is no extra motivation needed and we are ready to play."

The Badgers have played San Diego one time this season. Wisconsin came away with a 5-2 win at San Diego in late March.

Wisconsin has tallied their most wins since 2010 and reached 17 wins for just the third time in the last 25 years.
