MADISON (WKOW)  -- Kids Building Wisconsin was founded in 2014 with the primary goal of getting kids interested in the construction industry.

On Friday, Robert Thayer, Event Coordinator for Kids Building Wisconsin stopped by to talk about the event.

The goal is to improve general awareness of the many exciting and family-supporting careers in the construction industry, and to bring together the community to celebrate construction and how it touches and shapes our state.

The annual event has grown each year and now in its 4th year, we expect at least 2,000 kids and their families to attend.

All of the 32 interactive exhibits at the event feature a hands-on activity that gives kids a glimpse into the amazing world of construction and the career opportunities in the industry.

Kids Building Wisconsin will take place Saturday, May 13 at McKee Farms Park in Fitchburg.  The event is geared towards children ages 3-12.  The first 2,000 kids will get a free tape measure.
