Badgers land in-state commit with TE Cormac Sampson

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WKOW) -- We've got quite a ways to go before football season rolls back around, but recruiting never stops in the world of college football.

And if you know anything about Wisconsin football, you know that they do a heckuva job when it comes to keeping the in-state kids.

It took less than 24 hours to lock in Eau Claire Memorial standout Cormac Sampson.

On Friday, Wisconsin called Sampson to offer him a scholarship. The rising senior already had eight offers, but none from a Power-5 conference program.

On Saturday morning, the 6'5" athlete announced on Twitter his verbal commitment to UW.

Sampson has played multiple positions including tight end and defensive end. Both positions are needs for the Badgers going into the 2018 season.

"It's a once in a lifetime opportunity to go to Wisconsin, especially for a Wisconsin kid, but I kinda slept on it, and then today I had to jump on the opportunity," Sampson said to our sister station WQOW. "It's surreal really, they're all saying congratulations, but I mean just to go there and be a part of the program that's so big in Wisconsin culture, and also impacting the team, knowing that I can play in a lot of different areas."
