WHITEWATER (WKOW) -

The UW-Whitewater baseball team cleared the first postseason hurdle. The Warhawks defeated St. Norbert 4-2 in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional.

The Warhawks got a good outing from junior Heath Renz. He allowed one earned run in four innings of work to notch his ninth win of the season. Westin Wuethrich followed that up with four shutout innings before handing the ball to closer Mike Nompleggi for his seventh save of the season.

Shortstop Jordan Kuczynksi led the offensive attack with three hits. Steve Chamberlain added two hits.

The top-seeded Warhawks improved to 36-7 on the season. They will host fifth-seeded UW-La Crosse on Friday afternoon. The Eagles advanced to the winner's bracket with an 11-2 win over St. Scholastica (MN) earlier in the day.
