TSA talks security ahead of busy summer travel season

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) -- The Transportation Security Administration is prepared for the start of the summer travel period, which is typically marked by the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

At the Dane County Regional Airport, TSA screens an average of 3,000 passengers every day. The busiest travel days at MSN this summer will be Monday through Thursday.

TSA agents say you can avoid slowing down while going through security by packing smart, following the liquids rule, applying for TSA precheck, and double checking you do not have any prohibited items inside your bag.

"What we're finding is when we go ahead and have to interview the traveling public when we find such items inside their bag, is they simply forgot it was in there," said TSA Wisconsin Federal Security Director Mark Lendvay.

To prepare yourself for traveling, you can visit TSA.gov for tips on packing, a list of prohibited items, and other information that will help speed up the security process.
