Monona pit stop for those biking to work

MONONA (WKOW) -- Many people drove their cars to work Friday, but others were biking to their jobs for National Bike to Work Day.

Monona set up a special treat for bikers taking part in the day. The Monona East Side Business Alliance set up a pit stop, offering free coffee, water, and donuts to those speeding by.

The pit stop was located at the western end of Waunona Way, where it intersects with the Capital City State Trail near John Nolen Drive.

While biking can save you gas money, the East Side Business Alliance also says it is an important part of the state's economy.

"We know that biking brings in $1.5 billions dollars into the state's economy each year," said Kristie Schilling, Executive Director of the Monona East Side Business Alliance. "That's according to the Wisconsin Bike Fed, so we know that's significant."

May is National Bike Month as declared by The League of American Bicyclists. May 15 through May 19 is National Bike to Work Week and Friday, May 19 is National Bike to Work Day.
