Ducks don't quit, top Wisconsin in extra innings

Posted: Updated:

EUGENE, Oregon (WKOW) -- Never say never to the Oregon Ducks.

Heading into the final inning trailing by two, the Ducks Shannon Rhodes brought in the game-tying run off a double to left field to force extra innings. Carrying that momentum into the eighth, Oregon made the play at the plate to seal the 6-5 victory to advance to Sunday's Regional Championship Game.

The Ducks came after freshman ace Kaitlyn Menz to take a 2-0 lead early in the first inning.

In the second, the Badgers served up a big answer. After putting up a run off a throwing error, Chloe Miller cracked a two-run shot to take a 3-2 Wisconsin lead.

But that wasn't the only homer of the night. Sara Novak came up big with her first home run of the season. The two-run shot to left field put the Badgers up 5-2 with two innings standing between them and a trip to the finals.

Oregon put up a run in the sixth but the Rhodes 2 RBI double was the real game-changer.

Just hours later, the Badgers now face elimination. With a win over University of Illinois at Chicago, Wisconsin will get a rematch with Oregon in tomorrow night's 6 p.m. (CT) Regional Championship.
