UPDATE (WKOW) -- Beloit police have identified the victims in a shooting early Saturday that left two people injured. Eriana M.Ebbings, 19, of Rockford was shot in the head and was reported in critical condition but is expected to survive. Shawn M. Rouse, 29, of Beloit was shot in the buttocks and also is expected to survive.

Police continue to search for the shooters.

UPDATE (WKOW) -- Two people were shot in the city of Beloit and the gunmen are at large after a wild early morning chase. It ended near the I-39/90 Interstate ramp from Milwaukee Road.

"Pretty chaotic scene for the cops to handle," Beloit Police Chief David Zibolski said.

"A confrontation between some of the folks there, and folks resorted to firearms," Chief Zibolski said about the shooting that ended with a 19-year-old Rockford girl shot in the head.  Another victim, a Beloit man, was shot from behind.

Beloit's top cop says the suspects took off shortly after the incident on Eighth Street near Euclid.  Police deployed stop sticks,  stopping the vehicle, but the suspects ran off.

Luckily, officers were in the area on patrol before the shooting and rushed to the scene.

'They took immediate action, I just think they did a tremendous job to get us to the investigation phase," Chief Zibolski said.

Chief Zibolski says those type of patrols are now a common occurrence in that neighborhood.  He says the patrols will continue with new federal grant money.

"We're also looking at lighting issues, address issues, just a number of environmental designs to make things more visible, safer when they are walking down the street," he explained.

Beloit Police say they have leads, including a gun found near where the car chase started.

CITY OF BELOIT (WKOW) – Authorities are looking for two people involved in an early Saturday morning shooting that has left a 19-year-old Rockford woman in critical condition.  A 29-year-old Beloit man was also shot in his rear, but is expected to be okay. The woman was shot in the head, but medical personnel say she should survive.

A statement released midday Saturday says police were already patrolling the area of 8th Street and Euclid Avenue when they heard several gunshots fired about 2:45 a.m.  Witnesses gave the sergeant and the officer a description of a car they thought was involved in the shooting; police soon spotted it and tried to stop the driver and passenger inside.

The driver reportedly took off and a chase followed. The police used stop sticks and damaged the car's tires but when the driver tried to get on I-39/90, he lost control, went into a nearby field and then tried to get on the on-ramp to I-43 westbound. The suspect's car went about a quarter of a mile before the two ran into a wooded area. At this time, they've not been apprehended.

Investigators say the original incident likely stemmed from a disturbance that escalated into a fight, which then led to the multiple shots being fired. It also appears that there were multiple shooters.

The news release states Beloit Police have viable leads in the investigation, including a gun that was found near where the car chase started.

They're also asking for help from area neighbors and anyone else who may have information on this shooting. You can call Crime Stoppers anonymously at (608) 362-7463 or the police department at 608-364-6800.
