Madison College announces funding commitments to complete south campus

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison College has received a commitment which would fund all three phases of the south side campus, speeding up plans to complete the project.

Great Lakes Higher Education Corporation has pledged $3 million to complete phase two of the project as well as a $3.5 million matching challenge grant for the completion of phase three.

The announcement was made today by Dick George, president and CEO of Great Lakes Higher Ed at a news conference.

Officials announced in August that the campus will be built at the intersection of Badger Road and Park Street; the site currently occupied by the Wisconsin Department of Employee Trust Funds.

The college also announced at that time $11.3 million in contributions from the Irwin A. and Robert D. Goodman Foundation and the American Family Insurance Dreams Foundation to cover costs associated with Phase One of the South Campus Initiative.

The first phase includes the purchase of property, redevelopment of property to include spaces for learning and student support and the availability of space for community activities.

This facility will also include instructional programs in STEM and IT related fields that will be accessible to high school juniors and seniors, in particular those in the Madison Metropolitan School District.

Phase Two would expand the project to 45,000 square feet.

Phase Three would accelerate the completion of the entire South Campus with a build out up to 75,000 total square feet.

Madison College's new South Campus will include a comprehensive suite of student services, community access to social service and community-based organizations, and additional classroom and community meeting spaces.
