JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- A Janesville man was arrested for impaired driving after he crashed into a pole, knocking the power out to a neighborhood for hours.

The Janesville Police Department says the crash happened around 12:15 a.m. Thursday, December 21 in the area of E. Centerway Street and Williams Street. Investigators say the driver, Jeremiah K. Smith, 29, hit the power pole, then continued through a yard before driving over an embankment, which caused his vehicle to go airborne. The vehicle flipped and ended up on its roof in a yard on Williams Street.

The westbound lane of E. Centerway Street was closed for about four hours as Alliant Energy worked to restore power.

Police say Smith failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for 4th offense Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated. He also faces charges of Operating After Revocation and Failure to Have Control.

Smith did go to the hospital, but was later taken to the Rock County Jail.
