Arctic blast returns: Temps plummet nearly 50° from Thursday to Sunday

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) - Our mild weather is taking a drastically colder turn heading towards the weekend with temps falling nearly 50° from Thursday to Sunday!

An area of low pressure moving through the Central Plains will bring southern Wisconsin light to moderate rain overnight into early Thursday before transitioning to a rain-snow mix in the afternoon with little to no accumulation expected.

As that cold front pushes through, an Arctic-based high pressure system will set up ushering in another frigid air mass, though not as bitter as the stretch we experienced for Christmas and New Year's.

Friday morning, temps will be in the teens with wind chills near zero. By the afternoon, highs rebound only to the low 20s with single digit wind chills at best. Overnight lows will be in the single digits with wind chills dipping to around -10°. Saturday afternoon, highs struggle to reach double digits with wind chills likely below zero all day. By Sunday morning, wind chills will be around -15° with actual temps below zero.

The cold weather will likely stick with us through next midweek before another warmer stretch with temps in the 30s. Full Storm Track Forecast here.
