MADISON (WKOW) -- In the latest incident where a driver left a vehicle unattended and running only to have it stolen had a happy ending thanks to a misplaced iPhone.

An East Mifflin St. resident was on his way to a friend's house last night when he stopped home for a moment.. He quickly learned, as many others have recently, that leaving your car running and unlocked, even for a few seconds, is not a good idea.

He told a responding officer that he was amazed at by just how fast the thief had struck.

The victim also stated he had a very good idea where his stolen car was at the moment because he had left his iPhone inside and was  using a friend's cell phone to track his.

His phone appeared to be in the 400 block of S. Ingersoll Street where the police found his stolen car with the suspect in the driver's seat.

When confronted, the driver, Jimmy A. Clark, 59, told police the car belonged to his friend Willy, who goes by the street name "The Man."

Clark was arrested for operating a motor vehicle without the owners consent.

Clark went on to explain that had just borrowed Willy "The Man's" car to get some beer. The officers knew otherwise and he was arrested for operating a motor vehicle without owner's consent and theft.
