Eau Claire (WQOW) - Come Sunday, church pews in the Chippewa Valley will be packed, leading area churches to change some traditions to keep its parishioners healthy.
News 18 spoke with lots of Chippewa Valley churches Tuesday. Many told us they are asking people who may be sick not to accept communion. As for passing the peace, the traditional handshake and "peace be with you" exchange, Trinity Lutheran Church in Eau Claire has gotten creative.
Sarah Semmler Smith, an Associate Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, said they'll do peace signs, or a fist bump, or the sign language for peace instead. "Pretty much anything to let people know we want to share the peace, but not the flu," Semmler Smith said.
Semmler Smith even uses a foam finger to demonstrate the gestures. She said the changes add some laughs to the service.
