UPDATE (WKOW) -- North Madison Police officers say the two people who went to the hospital after this incident are not cooperating with authorities. One person "had a significant injury, likely as a result of the crash," the second person sustained facial injuries.  Police add that the second person was wanted for other crimes and was taken to the jail following a medical clearance.

A stolen handgun also was recovered from one of the cars at the crash scene.

As well, police say one of the bullets struck a nearby house -- narrowly missing someone who was sleeping -- but no one was injured.

A K-9 track at the crash scene revealed at least one other person likely ran from the scene.  A news release by Lt. Gregory Esser said another injured person, a 27-year-old African American man, showed up at separate area hospital and was treated for head injuries as well as a bullet graze wound to the head. Police believe these injuries were also related to the crash.

Investigators believe the shots fired event and the resulting accident are connected.

Altogether, at least four cars were involved in this investigation, in addition to the house that was struck.

MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison Police are looking into how a multiple-car crash also involved gunshots.

According to a news release, the incident happened at about 12:15 a.m. near Coolidge St. and North St.  Police say three cars and a house were damaged, and another home was hit by gunfire.
