Drake Baldwin leads Regents and state in goals scored this season

MADISON (WKOW) -

As the regular season comes to a close in the WIAA boys hockey season, the Madison West Regents will hit the post season with the state's top goal scorer this season in junior forward, Drake Baldwin.

By the numbers through 23 games, Baldwin has tallied 43 goals. He has scored at least one goal in 20 of those 23 games.

"He's not so much of a go in the corner and grind it out kind of guy," said Regents head coach Steve Libert. "He's a get me the puck and I'm going to go try and score a goal."

Despite his success on the ice, Baldwin doesn't plan on playing college hockey. In August, Baldwin verbally committed to Missouri State University for baseball on his Twitter account.

"I also love baseball. People ask me if I like hockey or baseball more and I say that I like them equally," Baldwin said.

Baldwin plays catcher for the Regents on the baseball diamond. As a sophomore last spring, Baldwin was an honorable-mention selection on the all-conference team for the Big Eight Conference.

The Regents boys hockey team is the four seed in the Section 6, Division 1 bracket for the post season. Madison West will host Madison Memorial on Thursday February 15 at 8 p.m. at the Madison Ice Arena.
