Sauk County woman killed in car crash on I-90/94 identified

SAUK COUNTY (WKOW) --- A Sauk County woman who died in an accident Saturday on I-90/94 near Wisconsin Dells has been identified.

Deputy Coroner Gary Zelmer confirmed Mary Frances Schimming, of Wisconsin Dells, was killed when her car spun out while entering the freeway and hit another car.

According to Zelmer, the 54-year-old was on her way to work at the Polynesian Resort when the crash happened. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Zelmer said the cause of death was blunt force trauma as a result of a traffic accident. The toxicology report is pending.

Her son, Derek Schimming, is heartbroken.

“The hugs you would get from your mom is something we can all relate too. When my mom hugged me, you could feel the love, you could feel the care, you could feel the support. You could feel that unconditional love kind of love. My mom was amazing women and taken to soon,” he said.

Schimming worked for 17 years at Hooker’s Resort near Poynette, Wisconsin as a waitress and later at the Kalahari Resort and Polynesian Resort in Wisconsin Dells.

She loved gardening, craftwork and photography. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed writing letters and cards to her family and friends, as well as attending her children’s sporting events and school activities. She was also fond of cats, especially her “Lexus”.

Schimming is survived by her children, Jennifer (Emrah) Avcialp of Turkey, Derek (Sara) Schimming of Stiles, Wisconsin and Trevor (Ashley) Schimming of Madison; parents, Michael and Rose Bingham of Wisconsin Dells; siblings, Michael (Kathleen) Bingham of Deerfield, Wisconsin, Mark (Kala) Bingham of Jefferson, Wisconsin, David Bingham of Baraboo, Wisconsin and Julie Bingham of Miamisburg, Ohio; many nieces, nephews and cousins; a dear friend, Dan Piwonski; and the father of her children, Scott Schimming.

The Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, February 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Wisconsin Dells with Father Eric Sternberg celebrating.

Visitation will be held at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family.
