Former Badger Ball released from probation

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE (WKOW) -- Former Badger Montee Ball has been released from probation following a judge's order Feb. 14, 2018.

The Department of Corrections, or DOC, had requested an extension of his probation, arguing Ball had not completed all the terms, however Dane County Circuit Judge William Hanrahan challenged  the department's reasoning and released Ball from probation.

Ball paid his restitution in full under the terms required by his probation and had completed his court-ordered domestic violence counseling, according to online court records.

Ball served eighteen months probation on battery and disorderly convictions.

DOC officials had argued Ball failed to attend court-ordered domestic violence programming, however Ball did attend counseling only later to be told by DOC that the particular counseling program he attended did not qualify.

But during the court hearing Feb. 14, Hanrahan called the department's supervision of Ball an abject failure and denied the DOC's request for a hearing to extend Ball's probation, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.

Ball has been open about his previous struggles and is moving ahead to make positive changes.

In an interview in November with WKOW, Ball said he understands some people aren't willing to overlook his past transgressions. but he said he's been sober for more than a year, speaks frequently with kids and is even writing a book about his struggles in hopes of helping others avoid the same pitfalls.
