Former Badger Ball faces possible return to jail

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE (WKOW) -- Since the Department of Corrections' letter to the sentencing court indicating its desire to seek an extension of his probation, Ball has paid his restitution in full.

He does have other court-ordered conditions that remain outstanding, including offense-related programming, according to the Department of Corrections.

"Due to the outstanding court-ordered conditions, DOC stopped time on his probation, which means that Ball will not discharge from his probation at this time," a Department of Corrections spokesperson told WKOW news. "The department is determining the appropriate response to his current non-compliance with the conditions of his probation, which could include extension of his probation or revocation."

MADISON (WKOW) - Former Badgers running back Montee Ball faces a possible return to jail, when the status of his probation is discussed in Dane County court.

A probation review hearing was set Tuesday for Ball for Feb. 26.

Ball has served eighteen months probation on battery and disorderly convictions after he beat up a former girlfriend.  State Corrections officials say Ball failed to attend court-ordered domestic violence programming, and did not pay over $1,400 in restitution.

"It appears the the defendant has not paid one, thin dime toward restitution that was ordered,"  Dane County Judge William Hanrahan wrote to a probation agent, expressing frustration court officials were only learning of Ball's failures as his probation terms ends.  "This is an utterly unacceptable state of affairs."

State officials propose extending Ball's probation for one year.  But Hanrahan could impose a jail sentence over Ball's performance on probation.  Ball has served time in both Dane County and Walworth County's jails in connection to domestic violence cases.

In addition to starring for Wisconsin, Ball played in the NFL with the Denver Broncos.
