Safe Seniors Camera Program protects seniors in WI

Posted: Updated:

GREEN BAY (WKOW) -- A new pilot program designed to protect our senior citizens is now in play.

It involves surveillance cameras provided by the state.

Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel announced the Safe Seniors Camera Program in Green Bay Tuesday.

He says one in nine seniors reported being abused, neglected or exploited in the last year and he hopes this program puts this issue in the spotlight.

"More families in Wisconsin will have the peace of mind that their loved one is being cared for with the utmost respect and dignity that they deserve. And if their loved one is not being cared for, there will be people out there who are more than ready than ever, to help and support those suffering from elder abuse."

The program is starting in northeast Wisconsin and will expand statewide if it's successful.
