MADISON (WKOW) -- Mozart’s first smash-hit opera comes to life at the Capitol Theater this weekend.
On Thursday, Kathryn Smith, General Director of Madison Opera stopped by Wake Up Wisconsin to talk about the opera.
“Abduction is a simply marvelous opera,” says Smith. “It’s the opera with which Mozart started to reinvent opera, with not only the expected arias, but also brilliant ensemble work. The very real humanity of the piece – its funny parts, its moving parts, and the universal truth of the ending – is extraordinary.”
The opera will be sung in German with English dialogue and projected English translations above the stage. The performance is expected to last about 2 hours and 45 minutes, including 1 intermission.
Pre-show talks are given 1 hour prior to each performance in the Wisconsin Studio on the 3rd floor of the Overture Center for the Arts.
The Abduction from the Seraglio by Mozart is on Friday, February 9 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, February 11 at 2:30 p.m.
