SUN PRAIRIE (WKOW) -- Multiple departments spent Wednesday morning battling a house fire in freezing temperatures in Sun Prairie.

Firefighters were called about 8:45 a.m. for a report of a fire in the 1000 block of Gas Light Drive on Sun Prairie's east side, according to Dane County dispatch.

The fire was called in as a vehicle fire, but while crews were en route, they were notified that the vehicle was inside the garage, so they upgraded the call to a structure fire according to Sun Prairie Fire Chief Chris Garrison.

Once crews arrived on scene, they were able to mostly contain the fire to the garage, Garrison said. It did spread to a portion of the house, but most of the damage was contained to the garage.

Everything in the garage is pretty much a total loss but the family was able to get out safely, according to Garrison. There were no injuries to the family or firefighters.

The family will not be able to stay in the home tonight, Garrison said.

Multiple departments responded to the scene.
