United Way launches Dolly Parton Imagination Library

MADISON (WKOW) -- The United Way of Dane County is working to give kids free books.

The nonprofit launched the Dolly Parton Imagination Library Wednesday in Madison. The program is designed to ensure every child under five years old in Dane County has access to books.

The books are mailed directly to the child's home every month.

The United Way says the program will help encourage imagination and personal development in each child.

"If we can get books into the homes of families, we can help parents feel empowered to be their child's first teacher," said CEO of United Way of Dane County Renee Moe. "That is really what helps more of our children get on pathways to success, gets them ready for kindergarten and helps them graduate and become wonderful members of our community, and so that is what this is all about."

The United Way says the program is being funding by a local anonymous donor.
