UW-Madison opens new career center

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) -- UW-Madison has a new way to connect its students with the next step in their careers.

The school cut a blue ribbon to officially open its new career center called SuccessWorks on Wednesday.

Students in the College of Letters & Sciences can go there for advisement, networking and interviews for jobs or internships.

SuccessWorks actually opened in the fall semester. In the first eight weeks, UW says the center hosted three times as many on-campus interviews than in the entire previous academic year, and career and internship advising increased 18 percent.

Letters & Sciences dean Karl Scholz says the response has been fantastic from employers and students alike.

"Students walk in and just say 'Wow, it looks like a tech startup.' It's a fantastically exciting space. We have the cow. We have coffee. We have hot chocolate. And we have a staff that is energetic and excited to help," Scholz told 27 News.

The career center is located on the third floor of the University Book Store on Library Mall in Madison.
