UPDATE: Pedestrian struck by vehicle near Blue Mounds identified

UPDATE (WKOW) -- The Dane County Medical Examiner says a pedestrian killed in a crash near Blue Mounds was a woman from Iowa.

She's been identified as Chelsea Lynn Oakley, 30, of Anamosa, Iowa.

Authorities say she was walking south on USH 151 near Cave of the Mounds Road early Thursday morning when she was struck by a passing vehicle.

An autopsy shows Oakley's death was a result of injuries from the crash. Additional testing is underway.


UPDATE (WKOW) -- A 30-year-old woman walking along along U.S. Highway 151 near Blue Mounds was struck and killed by a passing motorist early Thursday.

Dane County Sheriff’s Office deputies, along with Mount Horeb Police and Mount Horeb Fire and EMS responded about 12:20 a.m. to Highway 151 east of Cave of the Mounds Road in the town of Blue Mounds for a report of a single vehicle versus pedestrian crash. 

The crash resulted in both southbound lanes of Highway 151 being shut down for approximately 5 - 1/2 hours between Erbe Road and U.S. Highway 78.

The preliminary investigation indicates a 34-year-old male from Dubuque, Iowa was operating a 2010 Honda Accord southbound on Highway 151 when he struck a pedestrian who was walking along the highway.

The 30-year-female pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Dane County Sheriff's Office. 

The driver was cooperative with the investigation and there are no charges at this time.

The name of the deceased will be released by the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office pending family notification. 

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is interested in speaking with anyone who might have witnessed the crash or was in the area at the time of the crash.

UPDATE (WKOW) -- Dane County Sheriff's officials confirm to 27 News a pedestrian was hit and killed in a crash on U.S. 18 near Blue Mounds early Thursday morning.  

A sheriff's official said no arrests have been made, and as of right now they do not suspect anything suspicious.  The driver has been cooperative.  It's unclear why the person who died was walking on the highway overnight.  

According to a news release, the driver is a 34-year-old man from Dubuque, Iowa.  He was driving south.  The person hit and killed was a 30-year-old woman.  Her family is being notified.  

The southbound lanes of US 18 have opened as of 5:40 a.m. They were closed for about five hours. 

This is still an open investigation.  


UPDATE (WKOW) -- The Dane County Sheriff's Office has confirmed one person died in a crash near Blue Mounds early Thursday.

There are no details about that person or what happened in the crash itself. The crash happened near Cave of the Mounds Road near Blue Mounds. Southbound lanes of US 18 remain closed at Erbe Road.

BLUE MOUNDS (WKOW) -- Wisconsin Department of Transportation says part of US 18 is closed due to a vehicle incident.

It happened shortly after midnight Thursday.  Right now, all southbound lanes are closed near Erbe Road. It's expected to be closed for at least a couple of hours.

Dane County dispatchers told 27 News that there was at least one reported injury.

An alternate route to take, according to the DOT, is to exit at Erbe Road north, go west on CTH ID, then south on Cave of the Mounds Road, then get back onto US 18.
