Winter advisory is happy news for snowmobilers

MADISON (WKOW) - Business for winter sports equipment is booming with the upcoming winter advisory scheduled for Thursday night.

The storm has been too long in coming for people who like to play in the snow and for local businesses selling winter activity equipment.

According to Robert Hintz, general manager of Engelhart Motorsports in Madison, as soon as the store opened this morning, the phone has been ringing non-stop and people have been piling in to buy snowmobiles and ATV's.

Since the snow storm forecast, at least three to four snowmobiles have already been sold. Hintz says that customers are especially excited for snowmobile trails to open.

"Snowmobiling is a sport that just gives an exhilarating feeling that you don't get on any other type of product. Seeing the beauty of the snow and the trees and all the great places that can adventure on a snowmobile that you would never see on the road,"  he explains.

To see whether snowmobile trails are open around you, you can call the Dane County hotline. For trails outside of Dane County, you can visit your county park website.
