Go Red for Women Luncheon inspires women to take care of their hearts

MADISON (WKOW) -- Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of women in the country, taking more lives than all cancers combined

That's why the American Heart Association is working to inspire women to take care of their health.

The annual Go Red for Women Luncheon was held at the Monona Terrace Friday, helping the the AHA support lifesaving heart and stroke research , education and outreach.

First responders were honored at this year’s luncheon for all they do in the community, including Josalyn Longley.

She's a heart disease survivor.

"This can happen to all backgrounds, all ages, good shape not in good shape. You really have to pay attention to your body when you're getting those signs, because if you continue to put them off it could be too late," says Longley.

More than 600 people were at the event and WKOW is a proud sponsor.
