17 cats rescued from home in Kenosha

KENOSHA (WKOW) -- Cell phone video recorded inside a Kenosha home shows deplorable conditions where more than a dozen cats were found.

No one was living in the home, but the homeowner would stop by to feed his cats. Officials say that homeowner failed to pay property taxes for years, so the county took possession of the home. When officials went inside, they found 17 cats living in filth.

"We've had hoarder houses, and we've been into some pretty nasty houses, but this was probably the worst that we have ever seen," said Mary Kubicki, Kenosha County clerk.

Neighbors say the homeowner was a self proclaimed animal lover.

The cats are still being evaluated, but the Safe Harbor Humane Society says when the cats are ready to be adopted, they will likely be better as outdoor barn cats.
