Police say burglars "piggybacked" their way into dorm

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) -- UW Madison police suspect burglars followed residents into a dorm Sunday and stole items from at least one room.

Sometime between 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., Feb. 11, 2018, a burglary reportedly occurred inside a resident’s room at Sellery Hall, according to a UWPD incident report.

As many as four suspects could be involved, and UWPD has reason to believe there may be more than one victim.

Police believe the suspects may have entered Witte Hall as well later in the day.

It appears the suspects gained access to the residential floors of Sellery by “piggybacking” from other students, where they followed students into secured areas of the dorms. Police do not believe the suspect or suspects involved are UW-Madison students.

The UW-Madison Police Department is actively investigating this case.

Anyone with information is urged to contact UWPD at (608) 264-2677. Police ask residents to carefully check their rooms. If something is missing and residents believe they also may be a victim, please call UWPD.
