MADISON (WKOW) -- Join March of Dimes in the fight for healthy moms and strong babies at the annual city-wide kick-off to the March for Babies campaign on Wednesday, February 21 at Chick-fil-A in West Towne beginning at 7:00 am.

On Monday, Corissa Runde, 2018 March for Babies Ambassador Family stopped by Wake Up Wisconsin to share her story and talk about the kick-off event.

The open house-style event will last until 9:00 am and will feature a complimentary breakfast courtesy of Chick-fil-A, an opportunity to register for March for Babies and networking with corporate and family supporters.

“It’s wonderful to see the old and new faces that come and sign up for March for Babies each year,” said Sr. Development Director Ashley Mucek. “Now more than ever it’s vital that communities come together as moms and babies face an urgent health crisis.”

Nearly half a million babies in the U.S. are born prematurely or with birth defects, and pregnancy-related death has more than doubled over the past 25 years. Alarmingly in Madison, women of color are 54 percent more likely to give birth prematurely and their children can face a 130 percent higher infant death rate.
